EDWIN T. FRENCH Jr. 68, Indianapolis, former co-owner of Mechanics Laundry and Supply Inc. and owner and operator of Monarch Beverage Co. Inc., died April 26.

Mr. French owned Monarch Beverage, a family owned buisness with 480 employees, since 1977. He was also co-owner of Mechanics Laundry until its sale in 1998.

Involved in many community organizations, Mr. French was a founder of the Indianapolis Police Department's Motorcycle Drill Team; a former director of the Marion County Sheriff's Department Drill Team and a former member of the Police Merit Board and 100 Club, an organization that gives financial aid to the families of police officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty.

Mr. French was also a member of the Columbian Club, Indianapolis Athletic Club, Hillcrest Country Club, American Buisness Club and 702 Club. He was a member of Broad Ripple Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine and Royal Order of Jesters.

He was an Air Force veteran.

a 1955 graduate of Indiana Univesity, he played varsity baseball all four years at IU and was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity, Varsity Club, I-Men's Club, Hoosier Hundred and Well House Society.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Services: 11 a.m. April 28 in Tabernacle Presbyterian Church, of which he was a member.

Calling: 4 to 8 p.m. April 27 in Flanner & Buchanan Broad Ripple Mortuary.

Burial: Crown Hill Cemetery.

Survivors: wife Anne Lynch French; children Gail Pheffer, Edwin T. III, Susan French; brother Darroll French; three grandchildren.
